With a resume that reads more like who's who in the entertainment world, David Reign's credentials are impressive. Awarded San Francisco's Outstanding Male Vocalist for three years, David was selected as the first male vocalist to be placed in the San Francisco Cabaret Hall of Fame with the Golden Laurel Award.
His first break came while he was a student at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Vocal coach Judy Davis, who's past clients included Frank Sinatra and Barbra Streisand, granted him a private audition. "While I was singing, Judy picked up the phone and called the director of the Fantasticks, who was looking for someone to play the lead role of Matt." a few hours later he auditioned and got the part. It lead to a starring role in George M! and then a national tour followed by a European tour as a featured vocalist with The New Serendipity Singers.
While touring Europe, he fell in love with the classics of the French repertoire, and after appearing at Maxim's in Paris, returned to give a highly acclaimed one-man show at the Great American Music Hall, and debuted his first CD, David Reign...lately.
Featured in an NBC television special staring Ann Margaret, he went on to appear in the NBC movie of the week Death Be Not Proud, with Bobbie Benson, Jane Alexander and Arthur Hill.
David appeared at The Las Vegas Hilton, and went on tour opening for comedian Alan King. He won a role in the film The Conversation with Gene Hackman, and was also featured in the remake of the classic film Little Miss Marker starring Julie Andrews, followed by a role in Freebe and the Bean starring Carol Burnett.
David appeared with Lonnie Anderson and Lynda Carter in the CBS movie of the week, Partners in Crime, and was then asked to perform at a glittering gala for baroness Nadine de Rothschild at the Century Plaza Hotel, as well as a star-studded presentation of You And The Night And The Music at The Venetian Room of the Fairmont Hotel. He created a one-hour show that was taken on tour, recorded, and released as his second CD, David Reign In Concert.
Featured at Jimmy's and Tattoo in Beverly Hills, Tom Rola's Gardenia and the The Rose Tattoo in Los Angeles, The Plush Room and the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco, and the Mill Run Theater in Chicago, David was also honored to entertain for Senator Edward Kennedy during his fundraising campaign.
Among his many television appearances, David has also appeared as a series regular for Gemini Production's Ski Scene on The Independent Cable Network, and for the highly acclaimed Los Angeles production Ski Dazzle!
David went back in to the studio and completed his third CD, From The Heart, featuring love songs from the 20's, 30's and 40's. Recorded in Los Angeles by producer/arranger Ron Feuer, and over a year in the making, From the Heart has been hailed as "The finest standards album recorded by any artist in the last five years" by Ritch Esra, publisher of the A&R Directory, a standard in the recording industry. John Stark from People Magazine called it "An exquisite collection on romantic ballads, dreamily sung by David Reign" while Mrs. J. Paul Getty wrote "Only one love had I...until I heard David Reign's From the Heart."
Feuer and Reign proved to be a winning combination, and they were soon working on a new show which premiered at the prestigious City Club of San Francisco, followed by the release of It's Better With A Band, the CD that swings to the Big Band sounds. "The idea was to produce a recording that would be nostalgic and lighthearted" says Reign. "Ron Feuer brought in some of the finest musicians in the world for this project. Kind of a blast from the past." Entertainment critic Jan Wahl of KRON TV and KCBS Radio proclaimed it "Fabulous Fun! A hip, feel good CD with one of the best singers around." Music critic Philip Elwood from the San Francisco Chronicle hailed it "A magnificent job", and even fashion critic Mr. Blackwell said, "S'Wonderful, S'Marvelous. Like Sinatra and Bennet, an unforgettable voice." When hearing the quote, Reign smiled and said, "I'm so glad Mr. Blackwell like the CD, and delighted he didn't comment on the clothes!"
David's latest CD "Do It Again!" is currently in production in Los Angeles, featuring a collection of timeless standards with a soft jazz touch.
